Mermaid Isle
An underwater village off the coast of Florida, laid out in rows around one central aisle; home and market of Silky the mermaid.
An underwater village. The name refers to its physical layout — “the houses are rolled up and there’s one middle aisle” — houses in rows with a central walkway between them. Located next to a surface island. Silky‘s seashell house is at the center, doubling as the village market: “Her place is the market of the little town because people go there to buy some of her vegetables and stuff.” The market sells vegetables, seashell bracelets, coral necklaces, and rescue-adoption pets.
