Night Owl
Age 11½. Engaged to Wolf Spider; known each other one year.
Appearance: Stands upright on two feet; has human hands and human feet; otherwise owl — brown barn owl coloring, beak.
Powers/abilities: Can talk to animals (part animal).
Personality: Funny, cheerful, and kind. Opposites-attract pairing with Wolf Spider. Helps and cares for animals; stays home; builds and invents. Surprisingly good at hacking — uses it only to sneak into Wolf Spider’s computer and leave silly messages as pranks. Goes to the dump weekly to collect old clocks, spoons, and metal objects for inventions. Has a garden but it is a total mess — unorganized, full of flowers and weeds. Sometimes hoots. Vegetarian. Visually noted as similar to characters from BoJack Horseman.
Inventions:
- Rainwater distillation/purification system using salvaged parts.
- The treehouse stove, sink, and dishwasher.
- Invisible force field (with Wolf Spider’s help); powered by a device in the sunroom that sends out a ray surrounding the whole treehouse.
- Size-adjustable snack delivery bucket/box on a pulley system with a button to resize.
- Lawn Mower 2000: a tiny self-driving weed digger that digs up and spits out weeds; current bug — it drives in circles when it hits a pebble; she is nearly done fixing it.
Spooked by the Dark Forest: Has nightmares about the red fog discovery; Wolf Spider’s theory is that this is why Night Owl keeps ending up in Wolf Spider’s bed at night.
Pet: A butterbird named Tokatoo — named by Night Owl when she was 5. On Gemina it’s called a “cockatoo” but looks nothing like one: yellow and red lengthwise stripes, blue tail feathers. Ability to listen to context and figure out word meanings, then speak — essentially a talking bird.
