Gemina
A gem-filled world named for the giant diamond at its core; home of Wolf Spider and Night Owl, the Geminins, a human settlement, and the Dark Forest.
Name origin: Named for the diamond at its center and for gem-based features throughout.
Description (from Ellie’s written scroll): “A kind and happy world filled with animals, plants, and people of every kind.”
Core: Center of the planet is a giant diamond — no molten core like Earth. The origin secret of Gemina is hidden in a book locked in a safe buried inside a hole in the diamond at the planet’s core; the key is broken or lost; millions of miles down.
Geography: Mostly covered in water; has large mainlands (biggest islands) and many smaller scattered islands, some explored and some unknown/unexplored. Has a star-facing light side and a darker side.
Gem forest: A forest somewhere on Gemina made entirely of diamonds and gems; leaves on trees are made of glass.
Rivers: Made of aquamarine gems.
Flora: Multicolored — leaves in pink, yellow, blue, red; bark that is green; purple trees. Wolf Spider and Night Owl‘s shared tree changes colors constantly, sometimes a “swirling massive rainbow.”
Fauna: Unique hybrid animals — e.g., a deer the size of a cat with antennae and butterfly wings; a bug species with spider body, beetle wings, butterfly antennae, and tiny deer legs (8). No dinosaurs in its prehistoric past. Wild animals are always very smart and learn things quickly.
Butterbird: A bird species with butterfly wings and butterfly antennae; butter-colored; the whole species can talk by repeating sounds/words it hears, like a parrot.
Language: Called “Gemita” (also referred to as “Gema”); described as easy but also hard to learn. Ellie wrote a scroll in Gemita script describing Gemina and plans to read it to her friends. She also drew a colored map of Gemina showing the planet, islands, forest, ruins, human populations, and mountains. She intends to write out the Gemita alphabet so others can read the language.
Inhabitants: The native civilized inhabitants are called Geminins (analogous to Mobians in the Sonic universe). History: has existed for thousands of years; no one knows how it started or how creatures got there.
Human population: Humans from Earth arrived via a spaceship that crashed while searching for hidden planets; they couldn’t leave (no ship, no communications); built a human city just outside the woods; current population approximately 50; not trying to leave. At least two human population clusters on Ellie’s map — one near the woods, one near mountains; ruins also marked.
Raiders: The first fleet of humans who arrived raided Wolf Spider’s village when she was two — burned the village; some Geminins joined them.
Geography of Wolf Spider’s island: First woods → human city/village → second woods. First woods is where Wolf Spider and Night Owl live; second woods is where the rest of the non-humans (Wolf Spider’s tribe and others from Gemina) live. Nobody else lives in their section of the first woods; most people avoid the woods because of mean animals.
Route to Wolf Spider’s island: Involves a cave full of rare stalactites/stalagmites (“stacker lights”), lava pools with falling lava rocks, and big wavy seas.
