Ruby (Family Jewels)

One of the youngest of all the jewels. Best friend and sister of Pearl — formed in the same pod. First in the chain (does not mean oldest).

Ruby was sent away from the nursery. Sent to work at a prison — described as “even slimmer” than the nursery in terms of food and conditions. Food at the prison: “She only ate one meal a day, which was one egg scrambled.” Occasional upgrade: “Sometimes if she was lucky, she would get two.” Was separated from Pearl as a result of being sent away.
